Air Content of the Lung Measurement Overview

We described a method for using two image acquisition modes, unique to electron beam CT scanners, for acquiring images of pulmonary anatomy and function.

To measure the air content of the lung using VIDA,the value of the air and fluid are sampled using the histogram section of the LoadAnalyze Format (LAF) panel. Next, take these values and using AIM module to convert the image to have mostly air content and the blood/tissue values will be diminished. Then segment out the lung from the rest of the data using 2D-Seg. Last use ROI module to find the air content of the lung tissue.
