
Patinet History
The subject is a 65 year old male who has recurrent tracheal stenosis following a traumatic tracheal injury 7 years ago.
He normally has carbon dioxide laser treatments every 6 to 12 weeks. On this occasion following his carbon dioxide laser treatment, a Dumon Silicon trachea stent was placed distal to his tracheostomy tube (5cm x 14 mm).
The stent appeared to be in a good position. Seven days after the stent placement re-examination showed that the stent had shifted distally in the trachea.
Access to his trachea is only possible via a small tracheostomy stoma, and it was not possible to place a larger stent.
The initial stent was removed.Subsequently the patient has had further laser procedures
(CO2 and Nd:YAG)and most recently a successful balloon tracheoplasty.
