About the Author--WILLIAM E. HIGGINS

WILLIAM E. HIGGINS obtained the B.S. degree in electrical engineering (1979) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the M.S. (1981) and Ph.D. (1984) degrees in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana.

Previously, he worked as a principal research scientist at the Honeywell Systems and Research Center (1984-1987), Minneapolis, MN, working in the field of automatic target-recognition systems. He later was a senior research fellow in the Biodynamics Research Unit of the Mayo Clinic (1987-1989), Rochester, MN, working in the areas of multidimensional image analysis and visualization. He is currently an associate professor in the department of electrical engineering and bioengineering at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. His research interests are in image processing, computer vision, scientific visualization, and medical image analysis. He is a member of the IEEE, ACM, SPIE, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and the Pattern Recognition Society.
