ROI:Stats Window
The Stats menu item under the View menu button calls up the ROI:Stats window. This window is used to display, save, load, and print statistics about the objects the user draws.
Text Editor
The white screen at the top of ROI:Stats window is a text editor. This is where the statistics are displayed. The text in this file may be edited according to the directions in the Sun DeskSet Environment Reference Guide. For some basic information on using a text editor, see (Basic Information on How to Use Text Window).
File Name Entry Line
The File entry line displays the file name for the data in the text editor. To rename the file, left-click on the line, delete the prior entry by back spacing, type the new file name, and hit return.
Statistics for Regions
The item labeled Stats for allows the user to choose which statistics will be displayed for the chosen regions. Each region type (polygon, curve, and point) has its own characteristics parameters associated with it.
Poly
If you left-click on the poly button the following statistics will appear in the Statistics menu. To select a particular statistic simply left-click on it in the menu. To unselect a selected statistic merely click on it again.
- Count -- The number of times the Get Stats button has been pushed.
- Title -- The name of the selected regions.
- Slice Number -- The slice number associated with each region on each image.
- Phase Number -- The phase number associated with each region on each image.
- Mean Intensity -- The average intensity of the part of the image inside the polygon.
- Area -- The area surrounded by the polygon on the image.
- Std. Div. -- The standard deviation of the Mean Intensity.
- Centroid -- The coordinates of the centroid of the region on the image.
- Width x -- The x-axis dimension of the polygon.
- Width y -- The y-axis dimension of the polygon.
Curve
If you left-click on the curve button the following statistics will appear in the Statistics menu.
- Linear Distance -- The distance of the shortest path from the start to the end of the curve.
- End_Coord -- The starting and ending coordinates of the curve region on the image.
- Curve Distance -- The distance from the start to the end if the curve was stretched into a line.
Point
If you left-click on the curve button the following statistics will appear in the Statistics menu.

- Coordinates -- The coordinates choice in the list gives the coordinates of the point region on the image.
- Value -- The value choice in the list gives the intensity value of the point region on the image.
Statistics Counter
The number on the stat count entry line indicates the number of times the Get Stats button is pushed. It is possible to change this number by typing a new number in on the line or by using the up-and-down arrows.
Get Statistics Button
The Get Stats button displays the statistics selected from the statistics menu. The statistics are displayed in the text editor at the top of the ROI:Stats screen. In order to get statistics on an object, the object must be selected (see ROI:Edit/List Regions Panel).
Print
The Print button sends the contents of the text editor to the printer.
File Menu Button
The File menu button allows you to manipulate the contents of the text editor with respect to file input/output considerations. The options are:
Open Menu Item
The Open menu item calls up the Text:Open panel. The user then must choose the appropriate directory and file names and left-click on the Open button at the bottom of the panel to load the file.
Save Menu Item
The Save menu item calls up the Text:Save panel which allows the user to save the text file. If the filename on the Save: entry line is correct, simply press the Save button at the bottom right corner of the panel. If no changes have been made since the last save, ROI will inform the user.
Save as Menu Item
The Save as menu item calls up the Text:Save as panel which allows the user to save the file with a new name. From the menu, select the directory you want to save the file in. Then type the new filename on the Save as entry line. Last, press the Save button at the bottom right corner of the panel.
Include Menu Item
The Include menu item calls up the Text:Include panel. The user then must choose the appropriate directory and file names and left-click on the Include File button at the bottom of the Text:Include window to include the file.
Empty Document Menu Item
The Empty Document menu item causes the text editor to be emptied. This option should be used with great caution since valuable data may be lost when emptying the text editor. It is strongly recommended that any valuable data is preserved by storing the data in a file before the text editor is emptied.
Properties Button
The Properties button calls up the ROI stats properties panel which tells you the image pixel dimensions, allows you to change the units of measuments, and allows you to specify the minimum and maximum pixel value between which statistics are reported. More information.
