Memory Manager Panel

The Memory Manager button on the VIDA main panel calls up the Shared Memory Management (SHM) panel. This module allows for maintenance of the contents of shared memory. With it, you can save shared memory items to disk and remove items from shared memory, thus freeing up space to load different images.

Delete Button

The Delete button is located in the upper left hand corner of the Shared Memory Management (SHM) panel.

To delete a file from Shared Memory:

  1. Select the file from the Shm Items: menu by clicking on it with the left mouse button. DSRSLOTH is the file selected in the above panel.
  2. Click on the delete button with the left mouse button
  3. A message will appear stating,"DSRSLOTH will be deleted from Shared Memory".
  4. Click on the Confirm button to delete the file or
  5. Click on the Cancel button if you do not wish to delete the file
Now, the space which the file took in Shared Memory will be free for use.

For example, DSRSLOTH is the file selected in the Shared Memory Management (SHM) panel at the beginning of this section. If you pressed the Delete button, the DSRSLOTH image file would be deleted from Shared Memory. Notice also, the Shared Memory Used value changed from 8446416 to 5216992, and the Shared Memory Free value changed from 8323020 to 11552444. In other words, you have 11552444 - 8323020 = 3229424 bytes more memory free for use.

Save ... Button

The "Save " button, when pressed, calls up the SHM:Save panel which allows you to save the image file to a directory in your hard disk.

Shared Memory Used Value

The Shared Memory Used value tells you how much memory space is being occupied by the files you have in Shared Memory.

Shared Mem Free Value
